Enthusiasm for preparedness was palpable at a recent Food Storage Class held at a large Mormon church in Houston Texas next door to the Church’s Home Storage Center. Seasoned “preppers” and novices to the idea of home storage came from all over the Houston area and southeast Texas to learn specifics of home food storage, water storage, cooking in emergencies and how to accumulate and store commodities safely and economically.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a major contributor to the “Ready or Not – a free family Hurricane Preparedness Event” held in Houston, Texas on May 31, 2014. This marks the ninth year that the Church has taken a key role in planning and implementation of the event. [Read more…]
Over four hundred Houstonians flocked to the LDS Church building on Richards Road in Spring, Texas. They came to attend free classes ranging from sprouting to sour dough fermenting to beekeeping all presented at an annual preparedness fair co-sponsored by the Houston North Stake and Spring Texas Stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The fourth such event, classes and displays emphasized the importance of self-reliance in all aspects of living both in times of natural and man-made disasters, and in day-to-day activities.
