A heart-rending scene repeated with only slight variations throughout Houston is recounted by Julie Stanger, one of the thousands of volunteers who are helping people begin their lives again after the floods of Tropical Storm Harvey:
A Mormon Helping Hands crew from the Richmond 1 and 2 Wards works to muck out a home that experienced minor flooding. Thousands of homes in the Metro Houston area had multiple feet of contaminated flood water in them.
Crew members willingly labored and came from all walks of life…moms, dads, financial managers, doctors, teens, engineers…all willingly helped.
On April 30, 2017 a new Conroe Texas Stake for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized comprising nine congregations. The organization creates the twenty-first stake in the greater Houston area.
Former basketball players from across the United States joined their beloved coach Rick Sherley at Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas. The occasion was the north gymnasium was renamed Rick Sherley Gymnasium in his honor. Over 200 players, school personnel, friends and family gathered at a reception and presentation marking Sherley’s 25 years as head basketball coach from 1977-2002.

TOMBALL TEXAS – On February 8, eight Boy Scouts were simultaneously awarded the prestigious Eagle Scout rank at a special Court of Honor held at New Kentucky Park. All of the young men are members of Troop 619, which is sponsored by the Lakewood Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Orion District, Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
A collective sigh of joy and relief rose up from the dozens of onlookers as the first jars of peanut butter from the Church’s cannery in Houston Texas earmarked for Feeding America moved down the production line January 26, 2017.
Spring Texas – Celebrating a friendship and passion of purpose, Dr. Linda Margetts, Tabernacle Organist, performed in an organ concert for the community at Trinity Klein Lutheran Church in Spring Texas. The performance was part of the church’s concert series organized by Dr. Bill Brusick, Minister of Music at Trinity Klein.
