“Alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic!” shouted the crowd of leaders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) as they attended a Cub Scout training session Saturday, February 17, 2018. This event dubbed Little Philmont after the well-known Philmont Boy Scouts of America (BSA) training facility in New Mexico, was held at the church’s Klein chapel, 16535 Kleinwood Dr. in Spring, Texas.
The flagpole dedication at the LDS church in Katy, Texas on July 7, was the culmination of months of effort to fulfill a Boy Scout leadership goal. Over 100 volunteers and well-wishers took part in the event which was the vision of Lisa Davies, Den Leader for 9-year-old Bear Scouts of the Nottingham Country Ward pack 1047.
TOMBALL TEXAS – On February 8, eight Boy Scouts were simultaneously awarded the prestigious Eagle Scout rank at a special Court of Honor held at New Kentucky Park. All of the young men are members of Troop 619, which is sponsored by the Lakewood Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Orion District, Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
Gloria Adams, 82, made her way past the ladders and buckets of paint in front of her brick home in the Hiram Clarke area of Houston. She looked up to a newly repaired and painted area under the eaves.
“I had a covering to that hole propped up with a stick. I was afraid animals could get in,” she said. “These folks have done a wonderful job. They’re a blessing.”
When Boy Scouts seeking an Eagle rank attend their prerequisite Citizenship Merit Badge class, they usually come stocked with pencils, paper, and a stoic determination to get through the boring lecture and accompanying busy work as quickly as possible. However, sponsored by the Mission Bend and Alief Wards of the Richmond Texas Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, members of Troops 1195 and 282 in the Sam Houston Council in Houston, recently came away from their “instruction” excited and full of chatter, after a personal visit from US Congressman Pete Olson (Rep. 22nd District).
