On April 30, 2017 a new Conroe Texas Stake for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized comprising nine congregations. The organization creates the twenty-first stake in the greater Houston area.
It consists of the Huntsville 1st ward, Huntsville 2nd Branch (Correctional Facility), Crockett Branch, Madisonville Branch and Heritage YSA Branch from the College Station Texas Stake, Conroe 1st and 2nd Wards and the Crighton Ward from the Spring Stake, and the Montgomery Ward from the Woodlands Stake.
The new Conroe Texas Stake President is Robert M. Goodman, with W. Larry Johns as First Counselor and Russell Carruth as Second Counselor. This new stake presidency, called by Elder Bradley D. Foster, General Authority Seventy and Elder Raymond S. Heyman, Area Seventy, had never met before this weekend.
President Goodman and his wife Sharon are still in the process of relocating back to Texas from Seoul, Korea where they have lived for the past 5 ½ years. Goodman has worked in various capacities for Chevron Phillips Chemical Company for 30 years. Their four children and nine grandchildren live in Utah, Wyoming and Texas.
Having arrived in Texas in 2016 from Gig Harbor, Washington, President Johns and his wife Debbie are excited about their new neighborhood. Johns currently is employed with Johns Manville Industrial Insulation Group. They have six children and fifteen grandchildren spread across the globe. They feel very grateful to have been led to this area. Their eldest son’s wife was diagnosed with colon cancer and they were able to come from their home Brasilia, Brazil for her to receive treatment.
President Carruth is with TS Upset, involved in the oil and gas industry. He and his wife Laura have four children and twelve grandchildren. “Laura and I moved to Montgomery, Texas just over eleven years ago. We have lived in the same house all that time. We are now in our fourth stake and fifth stake presidency since moving here. The Lord is busy and moving at a rapid pace on our area,” Carruth said.
The new presidency shares common goals for the Conroe, Texas Stake. They invite ALL to come unto Christ and intend to foster a spirit of unity, belonging and openness for all within the stake boundaries.
“Hold fast to those truths of which you have received a witness. Continue to build upon your faith through the regular study of the scriptures, words of modern prophets and application of gospel principles. Our understanding will grow line-by-line until the truth of all things will be manifested unto us. I know this to be true through theapplication of this pattern in my own life,” Goodman said.
