The pervasiveness of Hurricane Harvey is such that everyone in the area has been affected or is closely connected with someone who has been affected emotionally and physically by its devastation. In Richmond, Texas in southwest Houston, members of the Richmond 1 and 2 wards in the Richmond Stake, rallied around fellow saints including Tace Hart, whose home was impacted by the flood waters brought on by the 50 plus inches of rain dumped by Harvey over 5 days.
Kade Johnson needed an Eagle Scout project. His family of five wanted to do service. Everyone sought that soul satisfying feeling you get when you are involved in something meaningful. Direct HOPE of Houston, Texas provided the means to the all those ends.

Spring Texas – Celebrating a friendship and passion of purpose, Dr. Linda Margetts, Tabernacle Organist, performed in an organ concert for the community at Trinity Klein Lutheran Church in Spring Texas. The performance was part of the church’s concert series organized by Dr. Bill Brusick, Minister of Music at Trinity Klein.
At a recent luncheon of over 500 supporters for Family Point Resources in Houston, Texas, Trina Morford from the Memorial Ward in the Richmond, Texas stake was named 2016 Volunteer of the Year for her work supporting refugee families.
Recently returned from serving an eighteen month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in sub-Saharan Africa, Sharon and Robert Berg of Pearland, Texas were full of enthusiasm for what they witnessed in the lives of African people.
Eight shovels stood at the ready during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 9100 Heritage Bluff Drive on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Community and church leaders, as well as supporters and church members braved the heat and gathered under canopies set up for the brief speeches and hymns commemorating the event in this Westheimer Lakes area situated in north Richmond, just across the road from Katy.
The standing ovation said it all. Richard Elliott, Principal Organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, was in Houston June 21, 2016 at the request of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) to perform one of several concerts during their biannual national convention. Elliott was chosen to premiere the newly commissioned piece Rhapsody for Brass Quintet and Organ by renowned composer Eric Ewazen. Elliott was joined by members of the Brass Quintet from the Houston Symphony.

In addition to the meeting VOAD members were able to see firsthand some of the Church’s disaster relief and welfare resources.
